Considering the way Internet Really Influence People?

The habit of relying on Internet search engines affect the way people remember the information. Psychology experiments conducted by researchers showed that when participants were asked difficult questions immediately think to look for answers on the computer. Participants who participated in the research has struggled to answer questions. They are easier to remember where they can find the answer. The team of scientists, headed by assistant professor of Psychology Betsy Sparrow from Columbia University, reveals that the Internet acts like a transactive memory that we rely on to remember. "The Internet became an external memory source," Sparrow explains.

Transactive memory concept put forward by scientists Daniel M. Wegner of Harvard University in a book entitled Cognitive Interdependence in Close Relationships . According to people who have a close relationship will rely on each other as each memory bank, for example, rely on a husband's wife to look for a ball game information. "I really think that the internet has become a form of transactive memory, and I want to test it," said Sparrow.
Dr. Sparrow, Wegner, and researchers Jenny Liu of the University of Wisconsin, conducted four experiments memory. One is the participants were asked to type in a brief statement as "an Ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain" in computers. Half the participants were asked to keep that information in a folder on your computer, while the other half were told that such information will be deleted.
The results showed that participants who were told that the information typed will be removed more easily remember, contrary to other participants did not try to remember because they thought that they can find this information again. According to Sparrow, participants tend to remember the location of storage of information rather than remembering the information itself. That suggests that human beings instead of the more difficult to remember something, but prefer to classify large amounts of information to be more easily searched.
"I do not think that Google makes us stupid, we just change the way we remember things," said Sparrow. "If we can find information online and even when we're on the road, then we have the ability to search the location information is MAGs, similar to our ability to remember the right person to ask about a certain thing," Sparrow explained.
