Internet Modem Devices
To be able to access the Internet, there are several kinds of hardware needed include:
Devices that are important:
Computer (of course)
Modem (Modulator Demodulator)
telephone line
1. Computer
The computer is a major component to be able to access the internet (already know, right?). Specification of computers used in the Internet connection is fast or slow performance mentukan internet access. the higher the specification of a computer, the faster the performance of Internet access, and vice versa.
Minimum specifications of a computer in another anatra internet access as follows:
Processor, the brains of the computer to run applications in a computer. Minimum Pentium III 500Mhz processor.
RAM (Random Access Memory) serves as a temporary storage medium. Minimum 64MB RAM
Hard drive used for data storage on magnetic media. At least 10GB hard drive
VGA card, the hardware for menampilakan image on the monitor screen. At least 4MB of VGA card
Monitor, merupajan output device for displaying the work process of the computer.
2. Modem
Modem stands for Modulator Demodulator from. Modulator is the part that converts the signal information into the carrier signal (Carrier) and is ready to be sent, while the demodulator is the part that separates the information signal (which contain data or messages) of the carrier signal (carrier) that accepted so that information can be received well. Modem is an amalgamation of both, it means the modem is a two-way communication tool.
In short, the modem is a tool to convert digital signals into analog signals komputre and vice versa. Computers that connect to the Internet connected to telephone lines via modem. Based on the modem function is divided menjai three types. Among others:
1. Modem Dial Up
Dial Up Modem commonly used by the Personal Computer (PC) are directly connected through the channel telpin. This type of dial-up modem there are two kinds:
1) Modem Internat
Is a modem installed in your computer, especially the expansion slots are available in computer mainboard. The average speed of an internal modem to download is 56 Kbps.
The use of the advantages of internal modem as follows.
a) more space-saving and more economical prices
b) Does not require an adapter so it seems there are a lot more concise without wires.
While the weakness of the internal modem as follows.
a) This modem does not require the indicator lights so it is difficult to monitor the status of the modem
b) The modem is not using its own voltage source and thus require power from the power supply. This resulted in the temperature of the CPU box is getting warmer.
2) External Modem
External modem is a modem that is located outside the computer CPU. External modem connected to the computer via com port or USB. Installation of this modem is to connect the modem to power and connect again to the adapter and then reconnected to the mains.
Advantages external modem:
a) Portability is well enough to be moved around for use on other computers
b) equipped with indicator lights so it is easy to monitor the status of the modem.
The weakness of the external modem.
a) the price is more expensive than internal modems
b) takes place or a separate location to put the modem.
2. Cable Modem
Cable Modem (Cable Modem), is a hardware device that connects your PC with a cable TV connection. Cable TV networks can be used to connect to the internet with a speed higher than the dialup modem or ADSL modem, cable modem speed of maximum 27Mbps downstream (download speed to the user) and 2.5 Mbps upstream (upload speed of the user). Before you can connect to the Internet, then the user is required to register with the cable TV service providers and ISPs (Internet Service Provider).
3. Modem ADSL (asymmetric digital subscriber line)
ADSL or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line is a form of DSL technology. Characteristic of ADSL is its asymmetric, ie that the data transferred in a different speed from one side to the other. The main idea of ADSL technology, is to break the telephone line signal into two parts for voice and data. It allows users to melakuakn or meneima phone calls and connect to the Internet simultaneously without disturbing each other.
3. Channel Number
Phone lines is also an important and hardware required to connect a computer with internet. Use of telephone sauran is also followed by the use of dial-up modem. In addition to phone lines, to make Internet access can also be done using cable TV. To be able to access the Internet using cable TV network the modem used is a cable modem.
HARDWARE SUPPORT INTERNET ACCESS
In addition to the above three main device (computer, modem, phone line) there are also some hardware supporting Internet access. Among others:
1. Hub / Switch
Hub is a hardware device that is used to combine multiple computers. Become the central hub channel connection to all computers in the network. Divided into two hubs, active hubs merupkan an electrical dilenggkapi repeater with 8 connectors which serve to form a digital signal is sent and adjust impedensinya to maintain the data along its path, the second is a passive hub is a repeater that has 4 electrical connectors serves to receive signals on one connector and pass them on to three other connectors.
2. Repeaters
Repeaters are devices used to receive signals and retransmit those signals with equal strength with the original signal, the repeater simply serves to strengthen the signal so that the signal is sent together with the original signal.
3. Brige
Berige is software to connect two physical networks using the same protocol / a type. With the bridge a data packet can be sent from one LAN to another LAN.
4. Router
The router is a device that serves nearly equal to the bridge. But this device has advantages in addition to connect two LANs of the same type, the router can also be for menghubungkjan two LANs with different types.
